Characteristics of lights, shapes and sound signals Flashcards
What are the light spacing characteristics for a vessel over 20m
20m <
1 mast head min 6m above deck, if breadth greater than 6m then light at least as high as breadth but no more than 12m
2 mast head aft light min 4.5m higher than forward
2 mast min 1/2 length of vessel aft of foresight
Fore mast max 1/4 vessel length aft of stem
Side lights 3/4 height of forward mast light
Vessel over 50m Aft anchor light min 4.5 m below forward anchor light
Lights vertically inline space of min 2m, lowest light no less than 4.5m above fore light
Additional signal lights vertically inline min 4m above deck
What are the light spacing characteristics for a vessel less than 20m
12m-20m
Mast head min 2.5m above gunwal
Side lights not more than 3/4 height of forward mast light
Lights vertical inline no less than 1 meter apart and 2 m above gunwal
Horizontal spacing of lights
When two mast head lights distance between shall not be less than half the length of vessel but need not be more than 100m, forward mast head shall not be more than 1/4 from stem
When one mast head required it shall be forward of amidships, except 20> then as far forward as practicable
Sound signal range of audibility
200m < - 2NM
75m<200m - 1.5NM
20m<75m - 1NM
20m> - 0,5NM
What is a flashing light as defined by the colregs and not by iala
120 flash per minute
Define a Flashing light
A light flashing at regular intervals at a frequency of 120 flash’s or more per minute
