Section 7, Chapter 7 - Bomb Warning On Aircraft Flashcards
What steps should be taken if Air Traffic Control receives a bomb threat relating to an aircraft?
Steps to take if ATC receives a bomb threat relating to an aircraft:
Inform the following:
- Aircraft Operators
- PC Ops Supervisor
- Next ATSU concerned with the flight (if the aircraft is airborne)
- BIA Operations Control Centre via ADC Emergency Line or IPOS - APRON or ext 4444
Note:
* ATC will not normally advise aircraft in flight of a bomb warning unless required to do so by the operating company.
* Messages to pilots from operators must always be referred to and coordinated with the PC Ops Supervisor.
Refer to MATS 1, Section 5, Chapter 9 for general guidance and AA/MAN/39 (Blue Book) for detailed reporting actions.
What local actions should be taken when an airline decides to search an aircraft in a remote search area due to a bomb warning?
Local actions for searching an aircraft in a remote area due to a bomb warning:
- Agree on a remote search area in consultation with BIAL ADM.
- Declare a Local Standby stating “Bomb Warning” and specifying the location of the remote search area.
Note:
* Be prepared to upgrade to Aircraft Ground Incident or Aircraft Accident if required or requested by the Police Incident Officer or Fire Officer.
* If the aircraft is to be evacuated using emergency chutes, declare an Aircraft Ground Incident.
* Ensure ground handling equipment and transport to convey passengers arrive at the site without delay after authorization by BIAL/Police Incident Officer.
