General Rule:

• No food and drink consumption in operational areas (APR, VCR, Engineering rooms/areas, and Simulator rooms/areas) per HQD 07/2018.

Exceptions:

Drinks:
* Only sealed drink containers (sports cap or screw cap) allowed.
* Bottles with removable lids must have the lid replaced and secured when not in use.

Food:
* Not permitted except during night shifts.
* Light snacks (fruit, sandwiches) allowed during night shifts.

Question 2

What is the Belfast Blue Plan and where can it be found?

Answer 2

Purpose:

• Details actions to be taken by appropriate personnel in the event of a major incident involving ATC operations.

Location:

• Retained in the Emergency Action Folder (AA/MANUAL/053).
• Copies available in VCR and Approach.

Importance:

• All staff should familiarize themselves with its contents.
• Watch Managers and Deputies must be fully conversant with all its contents.

Question 3

What are the rules and responsibilities regarding distractions in the operational area at Belfast International Airport?

Answer 3

Noise Levels:

• Keep noise to a minimum in operational areas (Visual Control Room and Approach Radar Room) and adjoining areas.
• SCOD monitors noise levels and takes action if necessary.
• All unit staff must ensure operational staff are not distracted.

Video Conferencing:

• Not permitted in the operational area.

Personal Devices:

• Mobile phones, smart watches, fitness trackers, and wireless locator tags must be switched off or in non-transmitting/flight safe mode.

Phone Usage:

• Operational position phone lines are not for personal calls.
• Urgent non-operational messages require SCOD approval.

Quiet Periods:

• Reading non-operational literature may be allowed to maintain mental alertness.
• During night shifts, audio/visual devices may be used; volume must be low and headphones are prohibited.
• Defined as no station on frequency and no anticipated traffic within 15 minutes.

What are the guidelines for managing visitors to the Control Tower Building at Belfast International Airport?

Approval:

• Visitors need SCOD approval the day before entering an operational area.

Escort:

• Visitors must be escorted by NATS staff in operational areas.
