Section 1, Chapter 17 - Co-ordination With Adjacent Aerodromes Flashcards
What are the key points of coordination with Langford Lodge Airfield (EGAL)?
- Owned by: Martin Baker Ltd.
- Status: Unlicensed airfield.
- Runways: 26/08 and 03/21.
- Facilities: No lighting or approach aids.
- Weather Conditions: Use EGAA’s reported conditions for operations to/from EGAL.
What are the procedures for Langford Lodge arrivals?
Landing Runway:
* Ascertain the intended landing runway in good time.
Separation and Traffic Info:
* Apply separation and pass traffic information as necessary.
Surface Wind and QNH:
* Pass the surface wind at Aldergrove and the QNH (not the QFE).
On-Ground Report:
* Request the aircraft to report when on the ground at Langford Lodge.
What are the procedures for IFR arrivals to Langford Lodge in IMC?
Instrument Approach to EGAA:
- Aldergrove will accommodate an instrument approach followed by:
- Landing at EGAA, or
- Pilot request to cancel IFR and continue VFR/SVFR to EGAL.
Pilot Request:
- Pilot specifies: “MBE 01/2/3 request cancel IFR and route VFR/SVFR to ‘x’ nm center fix RWY ‘AB’ at Langford.”
Center Fixes:
- Located between 5 and 2 miles from the runway in use, outside the Aldergrove ATZ.
Visual Manoeuvring:
- Not available for landing at EGAL off the Aldergrove instrument approach while remaining IFR.
Missed Approach Instructions:
- Provided before instrument approach:
- “C/S - after cancelling IFR, continue NAB A2000’ S/VFR. Report cancelling IFR.”
- Clearance coordinated with ADC.
Weather Deterioration:
- If weather deteriorates below SVFR minima before IFR cancellation, clearance is cancelled and pilot intentions are sought.
- If weather deteriorates below minima after IFR cancellation, handle as per VFR arrivals.
What are the missed approach procedures for Langford Lodge (EGAL)?
ATZ Penetration:
- MAPs from EGAL should not penetrate the ATZ.
Easterly Runway Instructions:
- Consider issuing MAP instructions in advance that include ATZ transit appropriate to prevailing weather conditions.
- Alternatively, a left turn to remain clear of the ATZ if available.
Expected Routing:
- Aircraft can be expected to turn away from EGAA extended centrelines and route to Portmore Lough to hold until instructed otherwise.
How are VFR arrivals to Langford Lodge handled?
Handling Procedure:
* VFR inbounds to Langford Lodge are handled the same as Aldergrove VFR inbounds.
Transfer from APC:
* Transfer occurs when the pilot reports Langford Lodge in sight.
What are the procedures for IFR departures from Langford Lodge?
Pilot Responsibilities:
- Determine acceptable visibility for departure.
- Ensure in-flight visibility and terrain separation.
- No radar headings until at or above terrain safe altitude.
- File an electronic flight plan for direct routing from Langford Lodge to Chalgrove.
ADC Responsibilities:
- Ensure PC Antrim Sector (ASST) has full flight details.
- Ascertain the runway to be used and pass Aldergrove QNH when pilot contacts ATC.
- Prior coordination with INT and ADC for all departures (VFR or IFR).
- Instruct the pilot accordingly and ensure separation and traffic information.
- Transmit Aldergrove surface wind and request the pilot to report when airborne (do not “clear for take-off”).
INT Responsibilities:
- Coordinate departure with PC Antrim Sector, handle as per “FREEFLOW” procedures with allocated squawk.
- Coordinate with PC if intended route and cruising level affect Class A airspace.
- Coordinate departure with ADC, passing squawk and any routing or other restrictions.
