Section 6, Chapter 3 - Radar Bypass & MRT Mode Flashcards
1
Q
How do you select Radar Bypass mode and what changes in the display should be noted?
A
To select Radar Bypass mode:
- Go to the ‘Tracks’ drop-down menu and select ‘Radar Bypass’.
- In the GIW window, the display should change, and the line ‘RADARS: BELFAST’ would not be present in MRT mode.

Q
What happens in MRT mode if radar bypass is not selected, and what are the implications for controllers?
A
In MRT mode, if radar bypass is not selected:
- The controller’s working position will display MRT derived tracks.
- These tracks are updated when all contributing radars have updated, so they are not in sync.
- MRT can result in different track speeds, levels, etc., compared to another position in bypass mode due to combined updates from different sources.
Note: Use of MRT (Connected mode) is not approved for controller use on the Eurocat-c at present. Only bypass mode should be selected at Belfast APC.
