Q1 Station 6 Integumentary system Flashcards
What makes up the integumentary system?
Cutaneous membrane and accessory structures
What does the Cutaneous membrane consist of?
epidermis and dermis
What is the epidermis composed of (cell wise)
stratified squamous epithelial tissue
Where is Stratum Germinativum (stratum basale) located
The deepest layer of the epidermis
What does is Stratum Germinativum (stratum basale) consist of?
many stem cells that divide to form new Keratinocytes that move into the epithelial surface
Where is Stratum corneum located?
The most superficial layer of the epidermis.
What does stratum corneum consist of?
many layers of flattened dead skin that contains Keratin filaments. It is water resistant and provides protection
What are the two layers of the Dermis?
Papillary layer
Reticular layer
Dermis:
Papillary layer is what?
superficial tissue which is composed of loose connective tissue.
Dermis:
Reticular layer is what?
deeper that papillary layer and is composed of fibers in an interwoven mesh of dense irregular connective tissue
Hair follicle:
what is hair papilla?
Connective tissue papilla
Hair follicle:
What is the root hair plexus?
free nerve ending on hair
sensitive to touch on the hair
Hair follicle:
What is arrector pili muscle?
part of musclecular system and made of smooth muscles
Sebaceous gand - multicellular gland that produces what?
sebum
Sebaceous gand - multicellular gland produces sebum. what does this do?
lubricates, antibacterial, protects keratin in hair, conditions
