presentation of qualitative data- research methods Flashcards
bar charts
represented visually using suitable graphical display so the difference in mean values can be seen
used whne data divided into categories- discrete data
bars separated on bar chart denote that we are dealing with separate conditions
histograms
bars touch each other which shows x axis is continuous rather than discrete
x axis made up of equal sized intervals of single category
y axis represents frequency within each interval
scattergrams
do not depict differences but associatoins between co variable
normal distribution
bell shaped curve- symmetrical
most people located in the middle area of the cruve with few people at extreme ends
mean median and mdoe all occupt the same midpoint of the cruve
tails of the cruve never touch the x axis
skewed distribution
distributions appear to lean to one side or the other
mode remains at highest point of peak then the median but mean dragged towards the tail- positive skew
negative skew- mean pulled to the left, mode highest peak and median in the middle
