mathematical content- research methods Flashcards
sign test
whether difference significant- need to be looking for difference rather than association, need to ahve repeated measures design, eed data organised into categories nominal data
concept of probability
refers to likelihood certain events will occur
null hypothesis- no difference in the population and how likely this is true
accepted level of probaility-0.05
researcher decides findings significant and reject null hypothesis
never statistical certainties
critical value
when test calculated the researcher left with calculated value needs to be comapred with critical value to decide whether result significant or note
critical value given in table of critical vlues
significance level 0.05, number of pps in invesitgation (n number or degrees of freedom) and whether hypothesis directional one tailed test or non directional two tailed test
sign test- calculated value has to be equal or lower than the critical value for the result to be significant
