PA 5 Flashcards

1
Q

How did you become interested in becoming a PA?

A

I was working in law enforcement when I started reading health-related books, listening to medical podcasts, and discussing breakthroughs with friends. Then I saw a PA in action, spending extra time with a patient in withdrawal. Her blend of expertise and compassion inspired me. That moment pushed me to learn more, and everything I discovered confirmed it was the right path.

Q

What part of becoming a PA and practicing medicine as a PA are you looking forward to the most?

A

I’m excited about being on the front lines of patient care—examining, diagnosing, and working closely with both physicians and nurses. I look forward to building trust with patients in their most vulnerable moments and having the freedom to grow in different specialties. Above all, I can’t wait to make a real impact on people’s lives every single day.

Q

why do you want to attend this program.

A

There are so many reasons why MCPHS–Manchester is the perfect place for me to become a PA. First, it’s in New Hampshire, where my family and I hope to build our future. Being close to my loved ones gives me the support system I’ll need during this intense journey. I’m also drawn to the small class sizes and the open-door policy, because it means I’ll truly get to know my professors and classmates on a personal level.

What really stands out, though, is the program’s commitment to a fast-paced, 24-month curriculum that focuses on both competency and compassion. I love that they use patient actors and real clinical scenarios, so I can build confidence before going on rotations. I’ve also heard great feedback from current students and faculty about how prepared graduates feel when they finish. That tells me I’ll be in good hands.

Plus, my background in law enforcement and as an EMT has shaped the way I serve others. I’m excited to bring that perspective to class discussions and group projects and hopefully help my peers along the way. MCPHS–Manchester truly feels like a place where I can grow as a future provider and keep giving back to my community. It has everything I need—support, hands-on learning, and a mission that aligns with my own. That’s why this program is my top choice.

Q

What makes you unique?

A

I spent over two decades as an NYPD sergeant, which taught me to lead under pressure and serve people in tough situations. I’ve also gone back to school in my 40s for a Biochemistry degree, balancing my role as a parent with my studies. That blend of life experience, resilience, and curiosity helps me stand out.
