PA 26 Flashcards

1
Q
  1. How would you describe your overall academic performance?
A

I had a rocky start when I was juggling work and classes. After returning to school later in life, I became much more focused. My grades improved dramatically, and I ended up with a strong GPA, proving I can handle demanding coursework.

Q

You are a PA at a baseball game, and you notice a suspicious mole on the woman in front of you. What do you do?

A

I’d probably try to start a friendly conversation first—maybe comment on the game or ask if she’s enjoying it. Then, if the moment feels right, I’d gently mention that I’m a PA and noticed a mole on her shoulder that might be worth checking out. I wouldn’t want to alarm her, so I’d say it in a calm, helpful way: “Hey, I work in medicine, and I see something that might be worth having a dermatologist look at.” I wouldn’t push if she seemed uncomfortable, but at least I’d feel better knowing I tried to help without overstepping my bounds.

Q

You are a PA, and a patient on your schedule insists on seeing an MD. How do you handle it?

A

I’d start by calmly introducing myself and explaining my role as a PA, including how I’m trained and supervised by a physician. I’d listen to the patient’s concerns without getting defensive. If they still insist on seeing an MD, I’d offer to see if one is available or if they’d like to reschedule. The key is to stay professional, empathize with their worries, and make sure they understand their options.

Q

How would you feel if a patient refused to see you because you’re a PA?

A

I’d understand they might not be familiar with the PA profession. It wouldn’t offend me personally, but it would motivate me to educate them about the care I can provide. If they choose to see a physician instead, I’d respect that choice and let them know I’m still available to help if they ever feel comfortable seeing a PA.

Q

How can you earn respect as a PA?

A

By providing excellent patient care, communicating clearly, and showing empathy. Building trust also means being open about your training and collaborating well with the entire healthcare team. Over time, patients and colleagues see that you’re knowledgeable, caring, and reliable, which naturally earns respect.
