PA 16 Flashcards
How will being an older applicant affect your performance in the program?
Being an older applicant gives me a wealth of life experience. I’ve juggled demanding careers, raised a family, and returned to school in my 40s. All of this taught me discipline, time management, and resilience—qualities that I believe will help me excel in PA school.
What advantages or disadvantages would you have as an older applicant?
An advantage is the depth of real-world experience I bring. Balancing a long career in law enforcement with returning to school taught me resilience, leadership, and sharp time management.
- Who is going to support you through school?
My family is my main support system. My wife and children are ready to stand by me, and they understand the sacrifices that come with PA school. My extended family is also close by, so I’ll have plenty of encouragement and help whenever I need it.
- Is your family supportive of your goal to become a PA?
They’re incredibly supportive. My wife has watched me balance work, school, and parenting. She knows how important this career change is to me. My kids are also excited, often asking questions about what it means to be a PA
- Who has encouraged you to become a PA?
My family encouraged me every step of the way, especially once I began studying Biochemistry and working as an EMT. My brother also cheered me on, reminding me that my background in service would fit perfectly in healthcare.
- How are your time management skills?
I’ve learned to manage my time well through balancing a full-time career, family responsibilities, and coursework. I use a planner to schedule everything, from class deadlines to family events, so I stay organized and focused.
