PA 25 Flashcards
Describe a disappointing moment from your life.
When I first started college, I ended up withdrawing from several classes because I couldn’t juggle a full-time job with my studies. Seeing those withdrawals on my transcript was a big disappointment. It felt like I had let myself down.
- Tell me about a time you didn’t meet expectations. What’s your worst experience?
Not meeting my own standards in college was my worst experience. I wanted to excel, but working nights and focusing on family responsibilities ate away at my study time. I had to step back, reevaluate my priorities, and return later when I could give school my full attention. That decision helped me grow, and now I’ve learned how to manage my time and commitments more effectively.
If a student fails a test, is it the student’s fault or the teacher’s fault?
Ultimately, it’s the student’s responsibility. Even if the teaching style isn’t ideal, graduate-level students must adapt and figure out how to master the material. I’ve had classes where the professor’s approach didn’t mesh with my learning style. At first, I struggled, but then I tried different methods—like forming a study group, using online resources, or meeting with the professor during office hours. By changing my study habits, I saw my grades improve. I believe that in a fast-paced PA program, it’s up to each of us to recognize what’s not working and adjust so we can succeed.
Tell me about a time you received negative feedback and how you used it to improve yourself.
When I was a sergeant, my boss told me I was coming across as too harsh when giving orders. At first, I felt attacked because I thought I was just being clear. Later, I realized some officers found my tone intimidating. I decided to change my approach and ask for their input more often. I also explained the reasons behind my decisions. After a while, I noticed a better team atmosphere. That experience showed me how important it is to adjust my communication style and to listen when others bring up concerns.
- What was your most difficult class in undergrad?
For me, Organic Chemistry was the toughest. I struggled at first with the detailed mechanisms and all the memorization. But once I changed my study habits and focused on truly understanding the reactions, it made more sense.
- What non-science undergraduate course will benefit you most in PA school?
Public Speaking helped me learn how to explain ideas clearly. That skill is essential for educating patients and talking with healthcare teams.
