A
H pylori eradication
gastric & duodenal ulcers (so often given with long term NSAID/steroid)

Mechanism of Action
A
irreversibly inhibits H/K ATPase in gastric parietal cells which is final stage of pathway so significant reduction in acid secretion

Adverse Effects
A
GI disturbance- abdominal pain, constipation/diarrhoea
headaches/dizziness
drowsiness/confusion

Contraindications
A
osteoporosis- fracture risk
masks symptoms of gastrooesophageal cancer

Drug Interactions
A
CYP inhibitor so can reduce clopidogrel action
and PPIs can increase warfarin and phenytoin effects (monitor)
