penicillin group of beta-lactam antibiotics
Common Indications
infections due to beta-lactamase-producing strains (where amoxicillin alone not appropriate), including respiratory tract infections, bone and joint infections, genito-urinary and abdominal infections
Mechanism of Action
beta-lactam = bactericidal & interferes with synthesis of bacteria cell wall peptidoglycan
clavulanic acid = beta-lactamASE inhibitor so combined with amoxicillin resistant

hypersensitivity
skin reactions
Drug Interactions
warfarin
methotrexate
oral contraceptives (as oral antibiotics can eliminate gut flora so lessen EnteroHepatic Recycling & lower conc with increased risk of pregnancy)
