Nervous System III Flashcards
Spinal nerve arrangement
Ventral and dorsal root connect as spinal root to exit the spine, split into dorsal and ventral again
What does the dorsal root do?
Sensory
What does the ventral root do?
Motor/glands
How many pairs of cranial nerves are there?
12
Where do spinal sensory nerves synapse?
dorsal root ganglion
What are sensory nerves in spinal nerves formed from?
dorsal root only
Where do spinal motor nerves synapse?
spinal cord
What are motor nerves formed from?
ventral root
What are the four plexuses formed by anterior rami?
cervical, brachial, lumbar, sacral
Parasympathetic?
rest and digest
Sympathetic?
fight or flight
What is thoracolumbar outflow?
the neurons begin at the thoracic and lumbar (T1–L2) portions of the spinal cord
What is the sympathetic trunk made up of?
Gray and white rami
Rami communicantes
Sympathetic chain ganglia
Gray rami
carry postsynaptic sympathetic fibers from the sympathetic trunk to all spinal nerves.
Rami communicantes
a nerve which connects two other nerves, and can be translated as “communicating branch”.
