Dosages for Midazolam
Adult Seizure: IV: 5-15mg, SLOWLY, titrate to pt response. May repeat in 10-15 min.
IN: 0.2mg/kg, max dose of 10mg.
Ped Seizure: 0.1-0.3mg/kg IV/IM.
Procedural Sedation: 0.5-2.5mg IV, SLOWLY. May be repeated up to total dose of 0.1mg/kg.
Onset, Peak, Duration of Midazolam
Onset: 1-3 min
Peak: Variable
Duration: 2-6hrs, dose dependent
Important note for Midazolam
Requires continuously monitoring of respiratory & cardiac function. Decrease dose by 50% in older pts & in pts with hepatic & renal dysfunction. IM/IN routes control seizures faster than IV if vascular access has not been obtained.
