Furosemide (Lasix) Class
Loop Diuretic
MOA of Furosemide (Lasix)
Blocks the absorption of sodium and chloride at the distal and proximal tubules and the Loop of Henle, causing increased urine output.
Indications for Furosemide (Lasix)
Heart Failure, Pulmonary Edema, Hypertensive crisis.
Contraindications for Furosemide (Lasix)
Hypersensitivity, hypovolemia, hypotension, Hypokalemia, hepatic coma, Anuria.
Adverse Reactions of Furosemide (Lasix)
Dizziness, HA, EKG changes, weakness, hypotension, orthostatic hypotension, dysrhythmias, N/V, dry mouth, hyperglycemia, may exacerbate hypovolemia and hypokalemia.
Dosage for Furosemide (Lasix)
Adult: 0.5-1mg/kg IV/IO slowly over 1-2mins. If no response, double the dose to 2mg/kg, slowly over 1-2mins.
Peds: 1mg/kg IV/IO slowly.
Duration for Furosemide (Lasix)
Onset: 5 mins
Peak: 20-60 mins
Duration: 4-6 hrs
