Contraindications of NACL

A

The use of NACL should not be considered in pts w/heart failure because circulatory overload can be easily induced.

Dosage of NACL

A

Pt condition will dictate rate of adm. Many situations, such as severe heatstroke, DKA, & freshwater drowning will require rapid adm. Other instances will require more moderate dosing.

Neonates: fluid bolus: 10mg/kg IV given over 5-10 mins. Multiple bolus’ may be given if pt remains hypovolemic, may aide on improved perfusion & clearance of acid.
