Amiodarone (Class)
Class III Antidysrhythmic
Amiodarone MOA
Blocks Sodium, potassium, and calcium channels; prolongs the action potential and repolarization, decreases AV conduction and SA node function
Amiodarone Indications:
Cardiac Arrest, VF/VT, Stable wide-complex tachycardia.
Amiodarone Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, Cardiogenic shock, bradycardia, 2nd or 3rd degree AV block, Sick Sinus Syndrome, or DRUGS THAT PROLONG QT INTERVAL.
Amiodarone Adverse Reations
Vasodilation, Hypotension, Decrease in HR, Bradycardia, Heart Failure, VT/VF, Dizziness, Fatigue, Malaise, Tremor, Ataxia, Lack of Coordination, ARDS, Pulmonary Edema, Cough, Progressive Dyspnea, Hepatoxicity, Increases the QT Interval.
Amiodarone Special Note
40 day half life
Amiodarone Dosage & Adm:
Cardiac Arrest, VT/VF: 300mg IVP. May repeat 150mg IVP once. In 3-5min.
Stable Wide Complex Tachycardia: 150mg IV over 10 min. (Mix 150mg in 100ml & run at 10ml/min or 600mcg/min.
Peds: 5mg/kg, IV/IO, may repeat Q 3-5 min until a total dose of 15mg/kg.
Amiodarone - Duration of Action:
Onset: 2 hrs
Peak: 3-7 hrs
