Lesson 6, Chapter 3 Flashcards
Concentric contraction
A contraction where muscle fibers shorten
Eccentric Contraction
A contraction where muscle fivers gradually lengthen
Isometric Contraction
A contraction where muscle fibers increase tension, but no movement occurs
The Vastus Lateralis, Vastus Intermedius, Vastus Medius, and Rectus femoris muscles
The quadriceps muscles on the front of the thigh
The Gluteus Maximus Muscle
A large muscle that extends (straightens) the hip
The Semitendinosus, Semimembranosus, and biceps femoris muscles
The hamstring muscles on the back of the thigh
Linea Alba
A band of connective tissue that serves as a connection for the abdominal muscles
The Rectus Abdominus Muscle
The most superficial abdominal muscle that flexes the trunk
The external oblique muscles
Two diagonal muscles that lie just underneath the rectus abdominus muscle and run diagonally toward the center of the abdomen
The internal oblique muscles
Two diagonal muscles that lie deeper than the external oblique muscles
Transverse abdominus Muscle
The deepest abdominal muscle which has fibers that run horizontally
Erector spinae muscles
Several layers of muscles that stabilize the trunk and extend the trunk
Trapezius muscle
A large superficial muscle that stabalizes the scapula
Rhomboid muscles
Deep muscles that work with the trapezius muscle to stabalize the scapula
