Lecture - Nerves/Vessels Upper Limb Flashcards
1
Q
Draw out the brachial plexus and the
- 2 nerve coming off the roots
- 2 nerves coming off the trunks
- 4 nerves coming off the cords
- 5 nerves coming out of the whole plexus
Also name the muscles each nerve innervates
A
Roots:
- Long thoracic = serratus anterior
- Dorsal scapular = levator scapulae and rhomboids
Trunks:
- Suprascapular = supraspinatus + infraspinatus (SUPRA)
- Subclavian = idk
Cords:
- Lateral pectoral nerve = pec major and minor
- Medial pectoral nerve = pec major
- Subscapular = subscapularis (SUB) and teres major
- Thoracodorsal = lat dorsi
Plexus:
- Musculocutaneous
- Median
- Ulnar
- (post) Axillary
- (post) Radial
2
Q
For each of the 5 nerves coming out of the brachial plexus - what root level are they each from? Like, musculocutaneous is C5-7, what’re the others?
A
Musculocutaneous = C5, C6, C7
Median = C5-Th1 (ALL)
Ulnar = C8, Th1
Radial = C5-Th1 (ALL)
Axillary = C5. C6
3
Q
Axillary Nerve
- What cord is it from?
- Whereabouts on the humerus is it?
- What’s the motor innervation?
- What’s the sensory branch of axillary?
- What two fractures/approaches is it prone to?
- What interval/space does it pass through?
A
- From the posterior cord
- On the surgical neck of humerus
- Deltoid and teres MINOR
- Look at image = supper lateral cutaneous nerve
- Subcapital fracture of humerus and surgical approach to the humerus
- Quadrangular
4
Q
Radial nerve
- Branch of what cord?
- Located in what compartment of arm?
- Passes along what groove?
- Enters forearm how?
- What is the motor supply?
- What’re the sensory supplies?
A
- Posterior cord
- Posterior compartment (I’m pretty sure there are only 2 compartments to the arm)
- So nerve itself is actualy behind axillary artery and leaves the medial situation to travel posteriorsly and perforates through trianglular interval to be located on posterior side of arm innervate everything on arm, forearm and even hand, on posterior side - Passes along the spiral groove of humerus
