Test for starch
Add 3ml of test solution to a test tube
Add 5 drops of iodine solution
Positive black/purple

Place it in a 70-80 degree water bath for 5 minutes

Add 2 ml of biuret solution

Sample preparation method
Use a pestle and mortar to grind down a small sample of food
Transfer this to a small beaker and add distilled water
Stir in order to allow some of the food to dissolve
Use a filter tunnel and paper to remove excess food
Half-fill a test tube with this solution
Lipids preferred method
5ml solution
3 drops ethanol
gently shake
Positive: cloudy white
Negative: colourless
Protein option 2
2ml solution
1ml sodium hydroxide
1ml copper sulfate
Gently shake
Positive: purple
Negative: colourless
