Exchange (P1) Flashcards
1
Q
How are exchange surfaces adapted?
A
Thin membrane- short diffusion distance
Large surface area- lots can diffuse
Lots of blood vessels in animals
Often ventilated (air moves in and out)
2
Q
Gas exchange in lungs process
A
Enters through bronchiole and arteries
Capillary network sees it become oxygenated
Leaves via veins
3
Q
Gas exchange
A
Transfers oxygen to blood and removes waste CO2
Lungs contain millions of little air sacs called alveoli where gas exchange happens
4
Q
Alveoli adaptions
A
Enormous surface area
Moist lining for dissolving gases
Very thin walls
Good blood supply
