Question 1

Random sampling

Answer 1

Draw a 15cm by 15cm square on the mat
Roll 2 dice and subtract 1 from the total
Move along the x axis by that amount
Do the same for the y axis with a re roll
Use that as the bottom left corner of a 2.5 by 2.5 cm square
Count the pink flowers in there
Repeat 3 times
Measure the size of the mat and estimate using the formula

Transect line

Answer 2

Draw 3 transect lines from the bottom left, 1 north, one west, one north-west
Draw three 2 by 2 cm squares on each line at regular intervals
The first 1cm away, the second 5cm away, the third 9cm
Record the amount of each flower type

Answer 4

Place a 1m2 quadrant at a random point within the first sample area
Count the organisms as many times as possible
Repeat as many times as possible
Work out the mean
Do it again in the second sample area
