Tobacco mosaic virus
- transmitted through contact, either directly or through a farmer’s equipment
- infects chlorophyll and changes colour from green to yellow or white in a mosaic patters, could shrivel up
- no cure so a farmer must reduce its spread
HIV/AIDS
HIV: human immunodeficiency virus
Passed through bodily fluids, mild flu like symptoms
AIDS: acquired immune deficiency syndrome, the HIV Becomes active months or years later and attacks the immune system
No cure as of yet, use antiviral drugs
Measles
Infectious viral disease often caught in children
Passed through air when coughing
Causes fever and skin rash
Vaccinated against
Gonorrhoea
Bacterial disease
Transmitted sexually
Causes pain while urinating and thick green discharge from the penis
Can lead to infertility
Prevented by avoiding sex or having protected sex only
Treated by antibiotics
Salmonella
Bacteria, causes food poisoning
Causes cramps, vomiting and diarrhoea
Passed through undercooked meat eggs and poultry
Prevented by vaccinating poultry and cooking food thoroughly
Malaria
A protist disease
Spread by mosquitoes (vector)
Fever, sweats, chills, vomiting, headaches, diarrhoea
Nearly half infected die
Prevented by sleeping under mosquito nets and treated through anti malaria drugs
Rose black spot
Fungal disease that affects roses
Causes black or purple spots on leaves
Reduces the ability to photosynthesize
Treated using fungicides and removing infected leaves
