Epithelial Tissue Types Flashcards
6 types fuction and location
stratified cells look cuboidal when not stretched and squamous when distended by fluid
transitional
several layers thick, flattened cells at surface to cuboidal in basal layer
stratified squamous
lots of surface area to aid in gases diffusing
simple squamous
max cell volume w/ minimal surface area. high metabolism and mitosis
simple cuboidal
role- making, secreting, and moving mucus
psuedostratified
found- kidney tubules, glands/ducts, choroid plexus of brain, ovarian surface, lining of terminal brioncioles of lungs
simple cuboidal
role- diffusion, filtration, secretion, protect from friction
simple squamous
role- protect from abrasion, barrier from infection, reduces water loss from body
stratified squamous
found- lining the urinary bladder, ureter, upper urethra
transitional
found- skin epidermis (keratinized) and nonkeratinized is in mouth, throat, larynx, esophagus, anus, vagina
stratified squamous
role- accommodation of flux of fluid volume. protects against caustic effect of urine
transitional
role- movement of mucus, help oocyte through uterine tube, secretion by glands, stomach, intestine, absorption by intestines
simple columnar
found- in glands, ducts, lung bronchioles, uterus, uterine tubes, stomach, intestine
simple columnar
found- nasal cavity, sinuses, pharnyx, trachea, and bronchi
pseudostratified columnar
microvilli seen in kidney tubules, cilia in lung bronchioles
simple cuboidal
