DRRR Exam 2 Flashcards
Aims to reduce the damage caused by natural hazards (like earthquakes, floods, droughts, & cyclones) through an ethic of prevention.
DRRR (Disaster Risk Reduction)
Application of DRR policies and strategies.
To prevent new disaster risk, reduce existing disaster risk, and manage residual risk, contributing to the strengthening of resilience & reduction of disaster losses.
DRRM (Disaster Risk Reduction Management)
Systematic approach to assessing strategies and plans to that aims to reduce the damage caused by natural hazards. If disaster risk is reduced, the probability of hazard event becoming a disaster is small.
Includes concepts of mitigating & preparing for the adverse impacts of hazards, reducing vulnerabilities to hazards, wise management of land, and increasing disaster resilience of communities.
CONCEPT OF DRRM
Disaster loss does not only affect those directly receiving its impact. Because almost all countries and communities interact globally, everyone is affected by one’s disaster loss. Hence, there is a need for an effort to reduce disaster risks by integrating policies, plans, and programs for sustainable development supported through bilateral, regional, and international collaboration and partnerships.
IMPORTANCE OF DRRM
are identified to have the most number & highest frequency of disaster impact.

Created by the UN General Assembly in 1999 as part of the UN Secretariat.
Aims to guide and coordinate the efforts of a wide range of partners to achieve substantive reduction in disaster losses and build resilient nations.
Leads the global forum for DRR where various communities & countries share strategies & guidance.
