What happens to the total internal energy of a system when the temperature is constant?

A

Temperature is constant in an isothermal process, the total internal energy is also constant, and thus the work done on the system is equal to the heat added to the system
U = 0, and thus Q = W

What is the thermodynamics of an Adiabatic process?

A

adiabatic process occurs when no heat is exchanged b/w the system and the environment, thus the thermal energy of the system is constant throughout the process. The change in the internal energy of the system equals to work done on the system
Q = 0, thus U = -W

Q

What is the pressure vs. volume graph of an isobaric process?

A

flatline because the pressure is constant, and thus the first law of thermodynamics is not altered

Q

What is the thermodynamics of an isovolumetric (isochoric) process

A

there is no change in volume, and no work is done. the change in internal energy is equal to the heat added to the system
U = Q
