Q
Neurodegeneration ?
-during?
-glutamate??
-alcohol protection?
duration before symptoms?
A

during intoxication, increase in oxidative stress and proinflammatory proteins which are neurotoxic…..

  • glutamate excitotoxicity …high lvls call cell death….
  • alcohol can protect us from Glutamate issues via blocking NMDA receptors but frequent use causes upregulation of glutamate transmission and excessive glutamine release during hangover and withdrawal.
  • many years!!
