Alcoholic liver disease (alcoholic hepatitis; alcoholic cirrhosis)
a set of diseases that are caused by the abuse of alcohol
Ascites
accumulation of serous fluid in the peritoneal cavity; it is a complication of cirrhosis, congestive heart failure, malignancy, or peritonitis; ascites present problems with technical factors
Bile
fluid secreted by the liver and discharged into the duodenum to aid in the emulsification of fats; increases peristalsis and retard putrefaction
Cholangitis
inflammation of the bile ducts or of the entire biliary tree
Cholecystitis
inflammation of the gall bladder
Cholelithiasis
presence of gall stones in the gall bladder or in the bile ducts
Cirrhosis
liver disease characterized by diffuse damage to the liver parenchyma
Enzymatic necrosis
death of one or more cells due to the release of enzymes
Fatty liver
fatty degeneration of the liver cells thus causing a yellow discoloration
Hamangioma
congenital anomaly where there is a proliferation of blood vessels that creates a mass appearance
Hepatic encephalopathy
associated with cirrhosis of the liver, passage of toxic material from the portal system to the systemic system leading to cerebral manifestation that may include coma
Hepatitis
inflammation of the liver, usually from a viral infection
Hepatoma
a malignant neoplasm arising from parenchymal cells of the liver
Jaundice
denotes a yellowish cast to the skin and sclera; there are medical (nonobstructive) and surgical (obstructive) types
Pancreatitis
inflammation of the pancreas
