King cotton
South tried to use cotton as a way to get help from Europe since Europe gets most their cotton from the south. Europe wouldn’t help cause they had a lot of cotton from the year before and this caused the south to abandon its defensive strategy
Anaconda plan
Scott came up with a plan to squeeze the south back into the union. He would blockade the coast line and control the Mississippi and attack Richmond, Va. This plan took time to work
