Created by Becknell and opened Spanish territory up to US trade.
Connected sante Fe, New Mexico with independence, Missouri(800 mile long journey)

Ran from independence, Missouri to the Oregon territory. Took 4-5 months and covered 2,000 miles. Difficult journey and 1 in 10 died on this trip

Joseph smith was the leader of the Mormons, and was killed by people who opposed Mormons. Brigham young became the new leader of the church and moved them out of the US into Utah owned by Mexico

Settled near the Great Lake where they would stay until they were forced into the US

He created one of the largest fur businesses, the American fur company. His company bought skins from western fur traders and trappers known as mountain men
