Chapter 10 Flashcards
This girl gave food to the unfortunate old man.
We gave nothing to them because we had been ordered to give nothing.
The citizens promised to give money to the doctor
τίς τιμην τοιουτῳ δωσει;
Who will give honour to such a person?
The king said that he had not given a gift to the woman.
Those soldiers are so brave as to fight well always.
The old man is so wise that everyone admires him.
The shout is loud enough for the people in the village to hear
The camp was captured so quickly that no-one fled.
The river is so dangerous that no-one can cross it.
The general speaks so wisely that he always persuades the citizens.
The forest on the island is such that nothing can be found there.
The enemy finally fled; as a result, the battle ceased.
The ship sailed so quickly that we were not able to capture it.
So big and of such a sort was our army that the barbarians were afraid.
Few slaves are so foolish as to run away
The sea was so dangerous that it was not possible to sail
He speaks so wisely that those present learn everything
The city was so big that we could not find the woman’s house
There were enough soldiers to capture the city
Socrates was honoured by the Athenians.
The people there were seeing nothing
When they heard the words of the messenger, they all laughed
The enemy there used both swords and stones.
I asked the cavalrymen many things about the battle.
The citizens after shouting for a long time did not persuade the general.
The king’s soldiers arrived in order to acquire gold.
The women tried to chase the children who were running away.
The allies despite being beaten are still fighting.
ἀρα ὁ διδασκαλος ταυταις ταις βιβλοις χρηται;
Does the teacher use these books?
Why are all the boys now shouting?
δια τί παντες οἱ παιδες νυν βοωσιν;
The girl was laughing on account of the strange old man
After the war, the citizens acquired many islands
Did you (pl) finally conquer those who had helped the enemy?
ἀρα τελος ἐνικησατε τους τοις πολεμιοις βοηθησαντας;
We often used to see the men who were trying to capture the ships
This horse is faster than that one
ἀρα οἱ πολεμιοι ἐν τῳ πολεμῳ αἰσχιον ἐπραξαν ἠ οἱ ἡμετεροι συμμαχοι;
Did the enemy act more shamefully in the war than our allies?
I know that the girl’s voice is very sweet.
The task of the slave now appears to be easier.
We have more soldiers than the Athenians.
The old man had very little food
Your house is bigger than mine.
The teacher speaks finely, but writes very finely.
The king’s fleet is better than yours
τίς των στρατηγων ἀριστος ἐστιν;
Which of the generals is best?
This woman is more beautiful than all the others
The boys ran away as quickly as possible
The deeds done by those men were very shameful
Those girls will hear the shouts more easily than the old man (will)
I know that you have the finest of the gifts, young man
The horse went quickly towards the field.
Many of the children were not present on account of illness
The ships of the Athenians were sailing around the island
The enemy ran at our walls.
ἀρα κατα την ἐμην βουλην ταυτα λεγεις;
Are you saying these things according to my plan?
We were marching up the river and into the forest.
We heard nothing about the disaster there.
Before the war no-one went to fight by sea
These things were done on behalf of the city, but contrary to the laws.
This girl arrived with many friends
All the prisoners ran out into the streets of the city.
δια τί ἀποβαλλετε ταυτας τας βιβλους;
Why are you throwing away these books?
The allies’ cavalry are waiting in front of the gates of the city
The slave was carrying the food into the house.
The soldiers went up the mountain without water.
ἀρα ἐξεστι δια της πυλης διελθειν;
Is it possible to go through the gate?
The enemy finally invaded our land.
Zeus came down from the mountain.
The old man, sitting in the field, was soon sleeping.
There is no water in the city.
All the girls ran out into the market-place.
We went to the old man’s house
The soldiers attacked the walls of the city
That woman is now going away
Why did the men in the assembly not send out messengers?
δια τί οἱ ἐν τῃ ἐκκλησιᾳ οὐκ ἐξεπεμψαν ἀγγελους;
ἀρα παντα τον σιτον ἐφαγετε, ὠ παιδες;
Did you eat all the food, children?
This messenger is asking if we know about the things that happened there.
The women in the city asked from where the allies were being sent.
I do not know who sent the letter.
So many people arrived then that we were not able to learn where they had come from.
ποι φευγεις, ὠ δουλε, και δια τί;
Where are you running away to, slave, and why?
I shall ask that citizen to say how he persuaded the assembly.
ἀρα ἡ παις τοιαυτη ἐστιν ὡστε ταυτα πρασσειν;
Is the girl the sort to do these things?
It is difficult to get to know if the road is safe in winter
ἀρα οἱ νεανιαι τοσαυτα ἀθλα ἐκτησαντο ὡστε ὑπο παντων θαυμαζεσθαι;
Did the young men obtain so many prizes as to be admired by everyone?
Do the citizens trust that general?
ἀρα οἱ πολιται πιστευουσιν ἐκεινῳ τῳ στρατηγῳ;
This woman asked whether I had seen the slave running away
What sort of food do you like, children?
ποιον σιτον φιλειτε, ὠ παιδες;
Who are those slaves, and where are they running to?
τίνες εἰσιν ἐκεινοι οἱ δουλοι, και ποι τρεχουσιν;
The old man asked the stranger where the temple was
