C-Type Lectin Families Flashcards
Macrophage mannose receptor
MMR and DEC-205
cysteine rich N terminal domain
a fibronectin like domain
multiple calcium dependent (C-type) lectin domains that bind various carbohydrate ligands
C type lectin family all contain
a conserved carbohydrate recognition domain for microbial mannose, n acetyleglucosamine, and beta-glucans
Distinguish between Eukaryotic cell carbohydrates an those on microbes
Eukaryotic end in galactose or sialic acid, most often; microbes end in mannose, L-fucose, and N-acetyl-glucosamine sugars
What do these receptors do exactly
facilitate the phagocytosis of microbes and secretion of cytokines that promote subsequent immune responses
What form do lectins appear as in the body?
both blood soluble and in the ECM, as well as integral membrane proteins on the surface of macrophages, dendritic cells, and some tissue cells
