BWS / Mnemonics day Flashcards

1
Q

Mnemonics

Suitability when selecting
landing zone - pickup zone - holding area
Technical

A

LONGLASSV
L-anding formation
(Determine if shape & size of LZ/PZ/HA is suitable for the formation to be flown)
O-bstacles
(Obstacles that cannot be eliminated must be plotted - plan app. & dep. over lowest obstacles)
N-umber and type of aircraft
(That the LZ/PZ/HA can support)
G-round slope
(If it’s suitable for the type of aircraft that will be landing)
L-oads
(High DA/GWT operations - determine if size, shape, obstacles,. surface area of LZ/PZ/HA will support this.)
A-pp & departure direction
(Should be flown over the lowest obstacle and generally into the wind - METT-TC considered)
S-ize of available landing area
(The area around the LZ/PZ/HA should be plotted for obstacles)
S-urface condition
(Brown-out, white-out characterists, be aware of vegetation, consider wet area ect.)
V-ulnerability
(Of ground troops during operations)

Q

Mnemonics

Tactical for selecting
landing zone - pickup zone - holding area

A

MSL

M-ission
(Whether the LZ/PZ/HA will facilitate the supported units ability to accompblish the mission - fuel, time, sorties, routes)
S-ecurity
(Sieza and proximity of threat elemement versus availability of security forces. Area should be large enough to provide dispersion)
L-ocation
(Whether LZ/PZ meets the commanders intent for dist. from objective)

Q

Meteorological for selecting
landing zone - pickup zone - holding area

A

VDWC
V-isibility
(Ceiling and visibility are critical when operating near threat elements - if one ship in formation responds to IIMC the surprise element is lost)
D-ensity
(DA may limit loads and may therefor require more sorties)
W-inds
(Determine approach and departure plans)
C-eiling
