double-folded membrane surrounding each lung

Space between the pleural layers
Mediastinum
centrally located space outside of and between each lung
Space located below abdomen containing Small and large intestines, rectum, urinary bladder urethra and uterus and vagina
Pelvic Cavity
Space within spinal column (back bone) containing spinal cord
Spinal Cavity
Diaphragm
muscle seperating the abdominal and thoracic cavities. it moves up and down and aids in breathing
Dorsal (Posterior)
Pertaining to the back
Peritoneum
double folded membrane surrounding the abdominal cavity
Ventral (anterior)
Pertaining to the front
Dorsal Cavitys
- Cranial (kray-nee-al): contains the brain
- Spinal (spy-nal): contains the spinal cord
Ventral Cavitys
- Thoracic (thoh -ras-ick): contains the lungs
- Abdominal (ab-dom-ih-nal): contains the kidneys
- Pelvic (pel-vick): contains the uterus
