Q

Right Ventricle Wall

description? function?

A

thicker than atria, thinner than left ventricle wall

only pumps blood to lungs

Q

Pressure Gradients in the Heart

CV system is what kind of system? what does that mean/

A

“closed-circuit” system

-blood flows in a loop, doesn’t leave the vessels

Q

Pressure Gradients in the Heart

how does the pressure gradient come about? what happens when the atria contract? ventricles contract?

A

chamber contraction increases the pressure on fluid within, causes blood flow down its pressure gradient

  • atria contract, high blood pressure within forces AV valves to open
  • ventricles contract & pressure of blood increases which forces the SL valves to open

Q

coronary circulation

A

myocardium’s own network of blood vessels

  • -supply O2 & nutrients to heart muscle wall
  • coronary arteries
  • coronary veins

8
Q

coronary arteries

description? function? location

A

O2 rich blood

  • deliver blood to heart muscle when heart relaxes
  • from aorta

Q

coronary veins

description? function? location?

A

O2 poor blood

  • receives blood from heart muscle
  • drains into coronary sinus

11
Q

left coronary artery

aka? function?

A
  • aka the ‘widow maker’ (most common one that causes heart attack)
  • supplies O2 to anterior ventricle walls, left atrium

Q

right coronary artery

function?

A

supples O2 to right atrium wall, right ventricle wall

14
Q

partial coronary artery obstruction?

aka? involves?

A

mycardial ischemia
-aka Angina pectoris
-severe chest pain accompanies ischemia
(like heart attack, pain, heart burn)

Q

total coronary artery obstruction?

aka? involves?

A

aka heart attack (caused by plaque build up in arteries)
INFARCTION- tissue death
-replaced by scar tissue

Q

all veins drain where?

A

coronary sinus

17
Q

blood flow through the heart

A

superior & inferior vena cava-> right atrium-> tricuspid valve -> right ventricle-> pulmonary valve-> pulmonary trunk-> pulmonary arteries-> lungs, O2-> pulmonary veins-> left atrium-> bicuspid (mitral) valve-> left ventricle-> aortic valve
-> aorta-> rest of body
