Q

It is intended that these “Light Trains” be used to transport FD personnel to small fires readily extinguishable by one or two extinguishers, to investigate the source of minor smoke conditions and other similar type incidents.
(not hand lines)

A
  1. 1 The decision to use a “Light Train” is to be made only by the Chief in Charge (CIC), based on the size-up of the incident.
  2. 2 The CIC MUST ASSURE a communications link with the FD Unit on the “Light Train” before authorizing its use. If a communications link cannot be established, the “Light Train” is NOT TO BE USED.

FD Unit Using Train Radio forgot
TA Command Center to
FD Boro Dispatcher dispatch
Chief In Charge chief
A

A. Agreement has been reached with the TA to allow the FD Unit direct use of the Train Operator’s radio.
It is essential that the FD Unit on the “Light Train” maintain control of this radio, since it is the only RELIABLE MEANS OF COMMUNICATIONS FOR the FD Unit on the train

C. Units should be aware that the train conductor is equipped with a hand held radio with capabilities similar to the aforementioned train operators radio. (dont use)

2.3 FD Units should not enter the track area from the “Light Train” unless power has been removed.
The Transit Authority will notify the FD Unit on the “Light Train” directly and the CIC through the FD Dispatcher when the above has been accomplished.
*only time dont get direct comfirmation from fdny dispatch

A

2.5 The possibility of delay in communications must be anticipated. Therefore, progress reports from the “Light Train” shall be transmitted as soon as possible, but at least once every 15 minutes.

  1. 6 A “Light Train” shall not travel past the next station without the permission of the CIC.
  2. 7 Apparatus of the unit who boarded the train should remain at its original location until, and if, directed to another location by the CIC.
  3. 8 When the CIC orders a unit to use a “Light Train”, provisions shall be made to assure sufficient stand-by or relief personnel.
  4. 9 These procedures do not preclude the CIC from boarding the train if deemed necessary. If the CIC opts to board the train, another Chief shall be special called to coordinate operations.
  5. 10 The CIC may request a “Light Train” from Transit via the FD dispatcher in situations where none has been provided.
