Absent Without Leave
AWOL
A
- AWOL is 5 or more consecutive working days (Part Time or Full Time)
- AWOL if employee doesn’t report to work, doesn’t contact commander, takes time off when request was disapproved, doesn’t return from leave of absence & doesn’t submit resignation
- If the employee hasn’t contacted commander after 4 hours, an attempt to contact employee should be made. If reason is valid, commander decides when employee must return to work. If the reason is unacceptable, the Commander shall advise the employee they are AWOL and policy of 5 days will be enforced.
- Oral info given to employee shall be immediately confirmed in writing.
- If employee can’t be contacted, shall forward written notice of AWOL & effective date of separation to last known address.
- If AWOL and returns to work before 5 days, dock time
Prior to invoking AWOL, look at MOU to ensure actions comply with MOU. - AWOL sent overnight, not certified
- Upon mailing a copy of both the notice and proof of service by mail, a copy should be sent to OIA and HRS.
