5.3 Physiology of the Muscular System Part 2 Flashcards
What is dorsiflexion?
movement of the toes up
What is plantarflexion?
movement of the toes down
What is an example of an antagonistic pair for dorsi and plantarflexion?
dorsiflexor = tibialis anterior
plantarflexor = gastrocnemius
What is radial deviation?
lateral movement of the wrist towards the radius
What is ulnar deviation?
medial movement of the wrist towards the ulna
What is an example of an antagonistic pair for radial and ulnar deviation?
radial deviator = flexor carpi radialis
ulnar deviator = extensor carpi ulnaris
What is pronation?
rotation of the forearm so the palm faces posteriorly or rotation of the ankle to the sole of the foot faces laterally
What is supination?
rotation of the forearm so the palm faces anteriorly or rotation of the ankle so the sole of the foot faces medially
What is an example of an antagonistic pair for pronation and supination?
pronator = pronator teres
supinator = biceps brachii
What is elevation?
upward movement of a structure
What is depression?
downward movement of a structe
What is an example of an antagonistic pair for elevation and depression?
elevator = levator scapulae
depressor = trapezius
What is retraction?
movement of a structure to be drawn in the posterior direction
What is protraction?
movement of a structure to be drawn in the anterior direction
What is an example of an antagonistic pair for retraction and protraction?
retractor = rhomboids and trapezius
protractor = serratus anterior
