1.2 Language of Anatomy, Anatomical Position, and Body Cavities Part 2 Flashcards
What is supination?
rotation of the forearm so that the palm faces anteriorly or rotation of the ankle so the sole of the foot faces medially
What is elevation?
upward movement of a structure
What is depression?
downward movement of a structure
What is retraction?
movement of a structure to be drawn in the posterior direction
What is protraction?
movement of a structure to be drawn in the anterior direction
What is the Anatomical Position?
reference point of a standard body position
What is the body position of the Anatomical Position?
vertical body
feet slightly apart
palms face forward so the ulna and radius are uncrosses
How do we view right and left of the human body?
refer to those sides of the body or patient being viewed NOT those of the observer
opposite of the observers left or right
What are the two regional terms of the body?
axial
appendicular
What is the axial body?
head
neck
shoulders
trunk
What is the appendicular body?
appendages/limbs
pelvic and pectoral girdles
What are the planes of the body?
sagittal
frontal
transverse
What is the sagittal plane?
vertical plane that divides the body into left and right sides
What is the median plane?
midsagittal plane
What are frontal planes?
vertical plane that cuts the human body into anterior and posterior sections
