damage to alveoli causes them to rupture leading to a loss of alveolar ventilation and gas exchange

What cells does cystic fibrosis affect?
all cells but most notably the epithelial cells of the respiratory tract
What does cystic fibrosis cause the cells to do?
produce mucus without enough saline causing it to clog the respiratory tract

chronic respiratory infections

shortened life span
What is pulmonary edema?
accumulation of fluid in the lungs
What can cause pulmonary edema?
infections
cancers
congestive heart diseases

What does someone hear when the listen to the lungs of someone with pulmonary edema?
crackling noise
What causes the crackling noise of pulmonary edema?
fluid filled alveoli pop open with each breath
What is pleurisy?
inflammation of the pleurae
What can cause pleurisy?
infection

injury
What are the symptoms of pleurisy?
sharp chest pain
