l’imparfait: a past action that used to repeat a lot, a habit; the background/setting of a story in the past

passé composé: Actions that are accomplished at a particular time that we know; interrupts something that was lasting

Ex: a picture. L’imparfait = for the background, passé composé = for the foreground, the characters and their actions
