What is the purpose of a food test?
To see what nutrients are present in the food
How do you test for starch?
Add iodine
How can you tell if a food has starch when tested?
You should get a blue and black colour
How do you test a food for reducing sugars?
4 to 5 drops of Benedict solution and you heat it gently for 5 minutes.
How can you tell if food gas reducing sugars?
Blue colour to orange colour
How do you test food for proteins?
2 to 3 drops of biuret A reagent or biuret B reagnent. Or you could add copper sulphate and sodium hydroxide.
How can you tell if their is protein in the food after the test?
Blue to lilac colour
How do you test for fat?
Rub into brown paper bag or filter paper
How can you tell if their is fat in the food after the test?
See if their is a translucent spot formed
Give a definition of hypothesis
A theory about what is going to happen
