Accuracy
The accuracy of a measurement is how close a result comes
to the true value.
What does the accuracy of each measurement depend on?
quality of the measuring apparatus and the skill of the scientists taking the measurement. -quality -skill
Precision
how consistent results are when measurements are
repeated.
For results to be precise/reliable
the variation within the values has to
be very small.
example : 4 arrows shot towards a target.
They all landed near each other; however, far of centre.
Precise
Inaccurate
Repeatability
A measurement is repeatable if the same person repeats the
experiment using same method and same equipment and it gives the same results.
-same person
-same method
-same equipment
=same results
Reproducible results
A measurement is reproducible if another person using different equipment/method gets the same results. -different person -different equipment -different method =same results
Anomalous results
Results which don’t follow the common pattern
Commonly found in line graphs - if so do not include in the
-do not include when calculating averages
