Y7 Particles Flashcards
Particle structure of Solids
The particles have a regular arrangement, they touch one another ,they are strongly attracted to each other which helps them stay in position.
Particle structure of Liquids
Some but not all sides of the particles touch ,but they are still touching. Unlike the solids the liquid particles do not have a regular arrangement .
Particle structure of Gases
These particles have lots of kinetic energy ,which causes them to move rapidly. The particles do not touch and can slide past each other. The attraction between the particles is weak and they are far apart.
Melting
A solid melting into a liquid
Evaporating
A liquid evaporating into a gas,but doesn’t use a heat source.
Boiling
Similar to heating ,it turns from solid to liquid to gas ,but it does use a heat source.
Condensing
The gas condenses into a liquid
Freezing
The liquid freezes into a solid
Complete the lists of states of matter:
Ice ,Water…
Steam
Diffusion is …
The movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration-A passive process ,no energy is needed from the body -this is because they have kinetic energy.
What will happen to particles that have a lot of kinetic energy?
The particles would usually not be attached to each other and would be moving around fast.
