Yr8-Energy Transfer:Radiation Flashcards
What is radiation?
Very hit things give out infrared radiation which is also known as thermal radiation.
How does light and infrared reach the Earth?
It travels because there is no air in space since it is a vacuum
Do all objects emit radiation?
Yes but it depends on their temperature
How can you determine the amount of heat per second it releases?
By the type of surface
Can infrared be transmitted, absorbed or reflected?
Yes, just like light
Does your skin absorb infrared from the sun?
Yes
What can a thermal imaging camera do?
It absorbs infrared and produces an image but the colours are false. It works as red is hotter than the blue for example.
What can absorbing radiation also do?
It can show temeperature
Why do you feel hotter with dark clothes?
Because of the infrared being absorbed better. than light ones.
How could you reflect infrared?
You could reflect it by making it hit a shiny or lighter surface.
When would you need a shiny material?
When running to keep the infrared reflecting back onto the person so their temperature doesn’t drop dramatically.
