Y8 Word Equations Flashcards
What is the format of word equations?
Reactants (2+) ➡️(arrow) product (new substance{s})
Methane + oxygen ➡️ carbon dioxide, water.
Which part of this equation has the reactants?
Methane + oxygen
Methane + oxygen ➡️carbon dioxide, water
Which part of this is equation is the product?
Carbon dioxide, water
In word equations, do you need to symbolise how many of each elements you need?
No. For eg:
In water you would need 2 hydrogen atoms but you don’t symbolise that in the equation.
What 3 important things do you need to construct an equation?
The elements, the product and the arrow.
Why do you not put the = sign instead of the arrow?
It is because the =sign is not equal to the reactants. The reactants are the ones that make the product.
