What is this?

(C)
Carbon dioxide.
What makes a compound?
2 different particles that are chemically bonded together by a heat source.
Why do elements have to be heated to create a compound?
If they were not heated, the particles wouldn’t join to together and it would make a mixture.
When you make a compound, will it be like the two elements that made it?
No.
For eg. Iron is grey and sulphur is yellow. When they are chemically bonded together, they then burn orange and leave behind a black solid which is called Iron sulphide.
What makes Sulphur Oxide?
2 oxygen atoms and 1 Sulphur atom.
What is hydroxide made out of?
1 hydrogen atom and 1 oxygen atom?
How could you tell a a diagram shows a mixture?
You can look at each one and see if it is equal in each other compound.
For eg.
If one had a carbon atom and two oxygen atoms, and another had an oxygen atom and two oxygen atoms, it would not be a mixture as it is not equal.
What makes water?
2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom.
What else can be found in water apart from hydrogen and oxygen?
Sodium and Chlorine.
Sodium and Chlorine make salt. This is why the sea water is salty.
What is water’s chemical formulae?
H2O
