Xtrap Running Brake Test Flashcards
What are the types of running tests?
Low speed Running test - service brake
Running brake test - service brake
When is a low speed running test performed?
When docking out of a siding on a previously prepared train (multi prep)
At what speed is a low speed running brake test performed?
At low speed - below 5km to test EP brake only (Only EP brakes work at that speed or less)
How is Low Speed Brake test performed?
- Follow departure requirements of location
- Once departed with correct authority power to 5km
- MC to FULL SERVICE (190 kPa)
- Observe 190kPa on BC gauge
- Bring train to a stand
What do you do if brake test is unsatisfactory?
Report fault immediately ti TC via TMM
How, what is the purpose of a Running Brake test?
Whilst the train is in motion, on the Mainline
and at a sufficient speed to assess braking is reducing according to position of MC
During what situations must a running brake test be carried out?
At the first opportunity prior to first required stop in these situations:
-After taking control of a train
-Changing ends
-After diving or attaching
-When moving from dry to wet rail
-Following a defect or alteration to train braking equipment (e.g. bogies isolated)
Running brake test method:
- Depart acc. to sig. aspects & plat. Procedure
- power to track speed, aspects etc.
- place MC to min brake pos
- observe ammeter & Brake Cylinder gauge
- MC further to braking zone
- assess braking effort acc. to pos. of MC
- return MC to COAST
